July 2009
Yoga and Massage 2
3 – 5 July • £120 • With Barbara Hicks and Mary Maguire
Yoga works not only on the body but also calms and sharpens the mind and leads to all-round alertness.
Iyengar Yoga will be taught in a way that is suited to beginners and more experienced practitioners. The classes will focus on postures to improve flexibility, strength, and balance, and exercises to improve breath awareness.
The weekend will also include sessions on giving and receiving a relaxing and toning massage, covering different areas of the body.
There will also be an opportunity for a walk in the Wiltshire countryside.
Note: This course, with similar ingredients, will be repeated in October
Walking Weekend
10 – 12 July • £120
We will spend Saturday on the sweeping Wiltshire Downs, exploring the Avebury monuments, now designated a World Heritage Site, and the lesser known Wansdyke, a long snaking earthwork with chalkland flowers and wonderful views. We may spot some crop circles too!
On Sunday, we will explore the edge of Wiltshire ‘dairy’ country, finding a white chalk horse, and an Iron Age hill fort, returning to the farm for lunch.
In between walking, there may be time for a little yoga to help us stay supple and relaxed.
Working Weekend – in the spirit of WWOOF
17 – 19 July • No Charge
For more information, see Working Weekends section.
Cycling Weekend
24 – 26 July • £120
This is a weekend for anyone who likes riding their bike, with others.
Pedalling together is a way of being together, being exercised, and being on the open road, country lane, or Sustrans cycle route.
On two wheels, we shall explore the countryside of north Wiltshire. There will be a choice of routes from which to choose, depending on your level of fitness and enthusiasm. (On booking form, please indicate your mileage longings and limits.)
There will also be an opportunity to learn and do a bit of bike maintenance, plus massage for aching muscles.
Note: Bring your bike! There is a cycle route from the station to the farm, ask us for details.
Self Sufficient-ish Weekend
31 – 2 August • £120 Adult • Child £75
With Dave and Andy Hamilton, and the Lower Shaw Farm Team
Would you like to know more about being a bit more self-sufficient in an urban setting? Would you like to discover how to forage for ‘wild’ food, find free fuel, light a camp fire, and cook over it? Would you like to know more about what food is worth growing in your garden, small space, or window box? Would you like to discover how to make a little, of anything, go a long way; make less feel like more; and still enjoy life? Do you fancy brewing nettle beer?
Suitable for anyone over the age of ten, and all levels of experience.
Dave & Andy Hamilton are the authors of the Self Sufficient-ish Bible. They both know both how to write about it and how to do it.
