Nordic walking is a good workout, very sociable, and a wonderful and social way of seeing and enjoying the great outdoors!

Whether you are a beginner or already familiar with Nordic Walking and Yoga, this is a weekend for you!

Nordic Walking was first developed in the 1930s in Finland for the Olympic Ski squad as a way of keeping fit in the summer months. It soon became popular throughout Europe, arriving in Britain in 2000. Since then it has become increasingly popular as a very effective way to keep fit and enjoy the outdoors.

Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. Its technique is similar to the upper-body action of classic cross country skiing. The poles propel you forward and act as stabilisers at the same time, taking strain off joints and helping to improve your posture.

Yoga too is a workout that improves your joints, muscles, and posture. And in our lovely sun-filled oak-beamed Yoga Hayloft, is also very enjoyable.

Melanie Mackintosh took up Nordic Walking as a way of keeping fit when she retired from front line General Practice and soon became an enthusiast for its health benefits and accessibility for anyone who can walk. Melanie is a trained instructor with British Nordic Walking. Claire Parnell is an experienced Personal Trainer, Sports Therapist, and Teacher of a gentle style of Hatha Yoga.

Note: Walking poles and yoga mats are provided but you are welcome to bring your own. Make sure you bring walking shoes, and ideally, a small day pack to hold water bottle, waterproofs and any layers you might peel off during your walk.

A chance to unwind and be rejuvenated!

Yoga works not only on the body but also calms and sharpens the mind and leads to all-round alertness.

Iyengar Yoga will be taught in a way that is suited to beginners and more experienced practitioners. The classes will focus on postures to improve flexibility, strength, and balance.

The weekend will also include sessions on giving and receiving a relaxing and toning massage, covering different areas of the body.

On Saturday there will be an early morning Pranayama (breath control) class, then following breakfast, a two hour asana (postures) class, and a massage class. After lunch the options are to relax at the farm, use the super rustic sauna, or go on a led walk in the local countryside. In the late afternoon there is a restorative asana session, and a massage class.

In the evening there will be either a guided meditation, or foot baths, or time to relax around the wood burning stove, or campfire.

On Sunday morning, the programme will be the same as Saturday’s, with a late lunch. Departures during the afternoon, from about 3pm.

Group size: up to about 12.

A chance to unwind and be rejuvenated!

Yoga works not only on the body but also calms and sharpens the mind and leads to all-round alertness.

Iyengar Yoga will be taught in a way that is suited to beginners and more experienced practitioners. The classes will focus on postures to improve flexibility, strength, and balance.

The weekend will also include a walk on the Wiltshire Downs, and a local walk leaving from the farm.

On Saturday there will be a morning yoga class, followed by a hearty brunch. Then there will be a walk on the Wiltshire Chalk Downs (about 4/5 miles). We will return to the farm for tea and cake, followed by a restorative yoga session. In the evening, our rustic sauna will be available.

On Sunday morning, there will be an early morning Pranayama class, followed by breakfast, then, a short local walk, followed by an asana class, and then a late lunch. Departures during the afternoon, from about 3pm.

Massages with Mary Maguire can be booked at a cost of £35, (payable to Mary during the weekend)

If you like to run a little or a lot; and if you want to become or stay supple and strong in body and mind through yoga, then this is a weekend for you!

As well as planned runs, there will be a chance to have your running technique filmed and analysed; be 'screened' to assess areas of strength, weakness, and/or tightness in your running body; plus , strength and conditioning instructions and routines.

The yoga sessions will be runner-focused, stretching those areas that runners need to stretch most.

There will of course be plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout the weekend, about running schedules, training techniques, injuries, nutrition, and yoga.

And to keep our energy, there will be healthy meals; the sauna will be in action; and there may be an individual massage service too!

Claire is an experienced Sports Therapist and Personal Trainer, as well as a GB age group Duathlete. She is passionate about making your running as efficient as possible to minimise the risk of injury and potentially, to make you faster!

As for Matt, he simply likes running, the thoughts and feelings that come when the body is in motion, and especially parkrun, which, he thinks, ticks all key boxes, for health, harmony, and happiness.

Iyengar Yoga will be taught in a way that is suited to those who already have some experience of yoga.

Dave’s aim is to challenge students to make progress on their poses and come out of their comfort zone, but the general atmosphere is light hearted and fun! When a student goes up into headstand for the first time we all share in their sense of achievement and joy. He recognises that everyone develops at their own pace and aims to teach with compassion and empathy.

On Saturday there will be an early morning Pranayama (breath control) class, then following breakfast, after an optional short local walk, a two hour asana (postures) class. After lunch the options are to relax at the farm, use the rustic sauna, or go on a led walk in the local countryside. In the late afternoon there will a restorative asana session, including inverted poses.

In the evening there will be a chance to use the sauna, or time to relax, perhaps around a campfire. On Sunday morning, the programme will be the same as Saturday’s. Departures during the afternoon, from about 2.30pm.
